Charles A. Macosko, 92, of Bentleyville, died Saturday evening, January 10, 2015 at Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg where he resided for the last 8 ½ years.
He was a lifelong resident of Bentleyville, where he was born May 8, 1922, a son of the John and Mary Skinta Macosko.
He worked as a laborer at Shire Oaks Freight Yard before entering the service.
A veteran, Mr. Macosko served during World War II as a Private with the U.S. Army. He received the Southwest Pacific Expedition, American Theater and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medals.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville and the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Charleroi.
He enjoyed music and had his own band, Charlie Macs Golden Tones and was a former member of the Bentleyville Firemen's Band.
Surviving are a sister, Eleanor Korba of Dewey, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are five brothers, John, Paul, George, Joe and Mike Macosko, sister, Ann Ferrelly and two infant sisters.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2015 with the Rev. James Ragan, officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Charleroi with military honors by American Legion Post 165 and the U.S. Army.
