Dale Spridik Obituary

Dale N. Spridik, 92, of Bentleyville, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Washington Hospital.

He was born October 27, 1924 in Charleroi, a son of Andrew and Martha Niceling Spridik.

He was a 1942 graduate of Charleroi High School.

A veteran, Mr. Spridik served during World War II with the U.S. Marines Corps in the South Pacific. A corporal, he was a Top Turret Gunner on the B-25 Mitchell Bomber with the Marine Bomber Squadron 413. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Four Gold Stars. On March 26, 2017, he is to be inducted posthumously into the Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh for his service and heroism in WWII.

He was employed at Page Steel and Wire in Monessen and later at Corning Glass in Charleroi.

He was a member of the United Steelworker’s Union, Teamsters, Corning Glassworkers Union and the former Veterans of Foreign War, Charleroi.

A quiet and humble man in his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and yard work growing his spectacular tomatoes and keeping his hedges trimmed.

Mr. Spridik was also a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville Campus (formerly Ave Maria).

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor R. Scicchitano Spridik with whom he was to soon celebrate 68 years of marriage; two sons, Gregory Spridik (Joyce) of Somerset Township and Mark Spridik (Cindy) of Jefferson Hills; four granddaughters, Susan Nelitz (Jay), Holly Hudock (Dave), Kayla Spridik and Rachel Spridik.

Private services will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela with military honors by American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville and the U.S. Marine Corp.
