David Morris Obituary

David Morris, 68, of Monessen, formerly of Bentleyville, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born July 2, 1947 in Bentleyville, a son of the late Floyd Thomas Morris and Cecilia Jansante Morris.

He was a graduate of the Dover (Delaware) Air Force Base High School.

A veteran, Mr. Morris served two tours during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army as a door gunner on a helicopter. For his heroism, he received the Commendation Medal and the Air Medal.

He worked for the former Beth Energy Mines at mine 60 as a roof bolter.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 165 in Bentleyville, where he served as the Adjutant. He was also a member of the Independent Club in Bentleyville.

Mr. Morris enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR, his garden, the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He was widely known in his extended family as having an open house where you could come visit at any time and enjoy some food and drinks. He took extreme pride in being a gracious host. He was well known for his hot sauce.

Surviving are his wife, Johanna Morris; his children, David Morris (Jina) of Pflugerville, Texas, Marinda Morris of Houston, Texas and Sonya Morris-Long (Paul) of Leander, Texas; step-daughters, Erika Coombs of Scenery Hill and Amanda Coombs of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Mariah and Jordyn Hayden, Whitney and Allison Morris and Alexander David Long; siblings, Pam Wilson (Jim) of Scenery Hill, Gina Stish (Bob) of Bentleyville, DeeDee Peake (the late Allan) of Daisytown and Tommy Morris of Bentleyville; nieces and nephews, Jim Wilson (Natalie), Rachel Martin (Ryan), Hayley Wilson, Jason and Joshua Peake and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, August 31 followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville, with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela with military rites by American Legion Post 165.
