L. Edward Bayer - Loving husband, father, and grandfather

L. Edward Bayer, 79, of Eighty Four, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born November 11, 1935 in Greentree, a son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude Vermillion Bayer.

On September 26, 1959, he married Betty Jane Porter who survives, with whom he recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

He was a 1954 graduate of Trinity High School and member of the FFA. He was also a member of the Ave Maria Parish and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was employed as a machinist for over 50 years starting at Kelley Industries and retiring from Pennsylvania Transformers.

He enjoyed flower gardening, working on the family farm, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting/school events.

Surviving in addition to his beloved wife are a son Jay (Judy) Bayer and daughter Lynn (Scott) Hudak, both of Washington; son Thomas (Judi) Bayer of Hickory; seven grandchildren Ryan Ferguson, Rachel Bayer, Kayla Hudak (fiancé Tyler Kerns), Tanner Hudak and Logan, Karlyn and Evan Bayer; brother Ronald (Carol) Bayer; brother Robert (Carol) Bayer; sister Gertrude Bayer (Carole Habere); sister-in-law Joretta Bayer Bradford; brother-in-law Robert (Garnet) Withrow and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother Richard Bayer and special cousin and godfather John Bayer.

Friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care of the Washington Health System, 155 Wilson Ave., Washington, PA 15301 or the American Cancer Society/PA Division, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 (www.cancer.org).
