Edward C. Caldwell, Jr., 79, of Somerset Township, Eighty Four, died unexpectedly Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Washington Hospital.
He was born January 22, 1932 in Monongahela, a son of Edward C. Caldwell, Sr. and Elizabeth Withrow Caldwell
He was a graduate of Trinity High School.
For most of his life, Mr. Caldwell was a self-employed farmer. He also worked for Carnegie Natural Gas Company and retired in 1996.
A veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense and Good Conduct medals
Surviving is his wife, Henrietta Zamiska Caldwell, whom he married on March 1, 1975 at the St. Joseph Church, Cokeburg.
Also surviving are a son, Edward H. Caldwell, D.O. of Beavercreek, Ohio; a sister, Betty Gordon (the late Bud) of Youngwood; four brothers, Harold Caldwell (Marlene) of Bethel Park, Paul Caldwell (Jane) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Albert Caldwell (Joyce) of Glendale, West Virginia and Robert Caldwell (Paulette) of Eighty Four and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is his first wife, Ruth Nicholl Caldwell, who died in 1971.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2011 with the Pastor Fran Skariot, pastor of Cokeburg Presbyterian Church, officiating.
