Joseph E. Zedar, 87, of Bentleyville, died Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2016 at the Donnell House, Washington.
He was born February 16, 1928 in Galloway, West Virginia, a son of Joseph and Angeline Torkar Zidar.
A graduate of Ellsworth High School, Mr. Zedar earned his bachelor’s degree from California State Teacher’s College (now California University of Pennsylvania) and earned his master’s degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Zedar began his working career at Bethlehem Mines, Mine 51 in Ellsworth, and then was a math teacher at Bethlehem-Center High School for 37 years.
Mr. Zedar was a member of Ave Maria Parish.
His wife, Mildred A. Lanik Zedar, died November 1, 2010. They were married August 24, 1957.
Surviving are a son, Mark Zedar of Aurora, Ohio; five grandchildren, Blake Zedar, Anna Zedar, Brooke Zedar, Bree Zedar and Cole Zedar, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2015 followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville, with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bentleyville Public Library, 931 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
