Michael Popovich Obituary

Michael Popovich, 91, of Scenery Hill, died Wednesday evening, September 3, 2014 at the Washington County Health Center.

He was born October 1, 1922 in Somerset Township, a son of John and Mary Rosen Popovich.

He was a 1942 graduate of the East Washington High School.

A veteran, Mr. Popovich served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was in charge of the crew of a B-17 plane with the 955th Air Squadron.

He worked for the former Yenko Chevrolet in Bentleyville and later worked for Bill Stefan Construction Company and Bentley Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator.

After retiring, he enjoyed hunting, taking bus trips, woodworking and family gatherings.

Mr. Popovich was a member of the American Legion Post 744 in Marianna.

On October 2, 1948 in Monongahela, he married Irene Fabin, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Kathleen M. Cowden (William) of Washington and Michael J. Popovich (Karla) of Scenery Hill; grandchildren, William M. Cowden (Jenn) and Angela Lemley (Terry); great-grandchildren, Emmett and Aiden Capp; two sisters; a brother and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a sister, Julia Popovich.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 with the Pastor Max Miller, officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 744 and the U.S. Army.
