Ralph W. Pinkney, Sr., 77, of Marianna, died Saturday afternoon, June 6, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 6, 1938 in Marianna, a son of Joseph Pinkney, Sr. and Mabel Rigger Pinkney.
He was a 1956 graduate of Bethlehem Jointure.
Mr. Pinkney retired from Bethlehem Mines and worked at the Moore Portal in Marianna. For 20 years, he and his wife owned and operated R & J Pizza in Marianna.
He was currently a school bus driver for Pryor Bus Lines.
He was a member of the Marianna United Methodist Church.
Mr. Pinkney enjoyed all high school, college and professional sports and bowled with the Fayette-Greene Traveling Team.
On October 11, 1957 in Brownsville, he married Janice Faye Gordon, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rhonda Carson (Bruce) of Coal Center; grandchildren, Jason Pinkney, Stephanie Wannamaker (Tony) and Benjamin Carson; great-grandson, Tony Wannamaker; brothers, Howard Pinkney and Donald Pinkney (Linda), all of Marianna and Franklin “Doodle” Pinkney (Rose) of Washington; sisters, Esther Mullins of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Shirley Pickens (Paul) of Murrayville, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Borcheck Pinkney of Meadowlands and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Ralph W. Pinkney, Jr.; four brothers, Edward “Lefty”, Joseph, Robert and Charles Pinkney and a sister, Sarah Rudman.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 with the Pastor Max Miller, officiating. Interment will be Thursday in Horn Cemetery, Marianna. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
