Life Legacy
Diane R. (Matush) Carmella of Bentleyville, age 59, quietly passed away in her home on Thursday, June 17, 2010, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer over the past two years.
She was the beloved wife of Ronald Carmella for 36 years; loving mother of Lindsy (Jason) Kollar of Bridgeville; soon-to-be grandmother of Grace Diana Kollar; sister of John (Cathy) Matush of Monongahela; and daughter of Mary (Malezija) Mandzok of Monessen and the late John “Dubby” Matush.
Diane loved music and the theater. She grew up playing the organ in church and was known as the crooning belle of Monessen High School where her beautiful voice landed her the leading roles in the musicals Bye Bye Birdie and Westside Story. Diane earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduating, she worked in retail at Eisenberg’s Department Store in Monessen before becoming a full-time wife and mother, a role which brought her the most joy in life. She was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 354 in Cokeburg and enjoyed performing and touring with the Tamburitzans when she was younger. She was a selfless friend to many, never expecting anything in return, but above all she was an amazing and devoted mom. A life lived with so much love never really ends but goes on in the hearts of those who loved her so deeply. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 at Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, June 20 with Father Robert Hanna of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Charleroi, officiating. For those unable to attend, condolences can be sent at www.thompson-marodi.com.
