Dan Benedetti – Active and Thoughtful Volunteer and Knights of Columbus Member
Dan Benedetti, 93, of Scenery Hill, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the emergency department of the Washington Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1924 in Scenery Hill, a son of Angelo Benedetti, Sr. and Mary DeFrancesco Benedetti.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941 and later received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration in 1970 from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Benedetti served with the United States Navy in World War II as a Radarman Third Class aboard the destroyer, the U.S.S. Perkins, in the Pacific zone. He was honorably discharged in August 1945.
He retired from the banking profession in 1993.
He was a volunteer for more than 20 years, participating with the Meals on Wheels program, the Bentleyville Senior Center, the Bentleyville Public Library and the Washington County United Way Caring Tree Project, which provided Christmas gifts for adults and children purchased by generous citizens in the community.
Mr. Benedetti was a lifetime member of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish and the Knights of Columbus Council 5826 in Bentleyville.
On June 25, 1949, he married Dolores Tiberi of Ellsworth, who died December 28, 2011.
Surviving are his children, Deborah Hamilton (Gerry) of State College, Donald Benedetti (Linda Nuccetelli) of Summerfield, Florida and Douglas Benedetti (Debra Groskopf) of Scenery Hill; six grandchildren, Danielle Waters (Fred) of Ocala, Fla., Steven Benedetti of Ohio, Matthew Benedetti (Abby) Ocala, Fla., Christopher Clayton (Carrie Cardell) of Melbourne, Fla., Amber Scarborough of Scenery Hill, Jessica Benedetti of Copley, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, Colton, Victoria, Kaitlyn, Adam, Blake, Luke, Kayden and Brody; four brothers, Rudy (Barbara), Jack (the late Shirley), Bob (the late Nancy) and Al (Vera); a sister, Laura Hrutkay (George); two sisters-in-law, Pat Puskarich (the late Michael) of Ellsworth and Greta Benedetti of Wilkes Barre and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother Angelo Benedetti, Jr.
At Mr. Benedetti’s request, there will be no public viewing. Friends are welcome to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Saint Katharine Drexel, Bentleyville Campus (formerly Ave Maria), 126 Church Street, Bentleyville with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, Administrator, as celebrant. Private interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
