Alex Medvick Obituary

Alex Medvick, 90, of Gibson, Bentleyville, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Washington Hospital.


He was born August 6, 1918 in Carteret, New Jersey, a son of Elias and Anna Panjoli Medvick.


A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II in central Europe.


He was employed by and retired from the former San Dell Kitchens, Bentleyville, where he worked as a cabinet maker.


Mr. Medvick also worked for various area coal mines and steel mills.


He was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Belle Vernon.


In the 1940s and 1950s, he played baseball for the Van Voorhis team.


Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Medvick of St. Louis, Missouri and Deborah Medvick of Walnut Creek, California and nephews, Nicholas and John Zuback.


Deceased are his wife, Helen Cherok Medvick, who died February 23, 2003; step-father, John Medvick; brother, Mike Medvick; sister, Mary Susick; step-brother, Charles Medvick and step-sister, Mary Zuback.


Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255). Family and friends will meet at the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Belle Vernon for a service at 9 a.m., Saturday, August 9. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. A Parastas service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15205.
