Anthony E. "Tony" Rukas, 87, of Bentleyville, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born September 22, 1919 in Van Voorhis, a son of William and Julia Wallentine Rukas.
After 47 years of service, he retired from Bethlehem Mines, mine 60, where he worked as a supply clerk.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1809 and a life member of the Lithuanian Club, both of Bentleyville and the UMWA Local 1197.
In the 1940s and 1950s, he played baseball for the Bentleyville Vikings.
His wife, Launa B. Sharpnack Rukas, died June 20, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann Bland and husband William of Bentleyville; a son, Loren David Rukas and wife Lisa of Houston; four grandchildren, Stephanie Bland Cole and husband Greg, Anthony W. Bland and wife Bernadette, Jason Bland and wife Melissa and Jillian Bland Gagus and husband Chuck; two great-granddaughters, Abigail Cole and Hayden Bland.
Deceased are a brother, William Rukas and two sisters, Judy Guzick and Frances Garrett.
Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc. 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 17, 2007 with the Rev. Andy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery.
