Benji the Therapy Dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 11:42 a.m. on Christmas Eve 2019. He was at home with his mom, dad, and two pug brothers by his side. His special friend Dr. R. G. Krishnan arrived shortly after he passed and blessed him with last rights.
Benji was born on February 9, 2011 and was welcomed into his forever home with the Peck family in April of the same year.
He passed the Canine Good Citizenship test on May 4, 2013 and made his first trip to the Residence at Hilltop on October 31, 2014. He made four test visits to the facility before passing the Therapy Dog International test on November 25, 2014. He made his first official therapy dog visit on January 2, 2015. Since then, he has visited the Monongahela Valley Hospital, Mon Valley Care Center, the special needs class at Belle Vernon High School, and the first and second grade classes at Marion Elementary. Benji could be spotted in Wal-Mart and Lowes, as he was always welcome in many area stores.
Benji received many certificates from Therapy Dog International for the number of visits he made. On October 15, 2018, he made his 500th visit and received Therapy Dog International’s highest award – the Gold Award. He made his last visit to Mon Valley Hospital on December 5, 2019.
Benji touched the lives of many people in the area and he had 5,000 friends on his Facebook page, “Benji the Therapy Dog.” He also had many friends around the world, and at last count he had friends in 29 countries.
Benji is survived by his mother Diana, father Russell, pug brothers, Kevin and Kobi, and his special friend, Dr. Krishnan and many friends at Mon Valley Hospital.
