Charles Marodi Obituary

Charles Marodi, 88, formerly of Marianna, died Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 at the Washington County Health Center.

He was born February 26, 1929 in Tower Hill, Fayette County, a son of Alex and Julia Postick Marodi.

He was a graduate of the West Beth Township High School.

On September 16, 1950, in Marianna, he married Viola “Honey” Doty, who died on October 9, 2006.

A veteran, he served in Germany during Korean War as a corporal in the U.S. Army.

After 30 years of service, he retired from the former BethEnergy Mines, where he worked as a fire boss at the Moore Portal.

He was a former member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in West Brownsville.

Charles was a member of the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744 and the United Mine Workers of America, Local 2874, both of Marianna.

Surviving are his children, Vickie Knizner (Frank) of Deemston Borough, Alex Marodi (Annette) of Pittsburgh and Tim Marodi (Randi) of Bentleyville; 11 grandchildren, Jason Knizner (fiancé Jamie), Ashley Sharpnack (Brook), Christopher Knizner (Erin), Danielle Marodi, Aaron Marodi, Luke Marodi, Rachel Kittka (Ben), Anna Marodi, Leah Marodi, Abigail Marodi and Katherine Marodi; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Matthew Knizner; a brother, George Marodi (Lorena) of state of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his wife are a son, Danny Marodi and a brother, Mike Marodi.

Friends are welcome from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255. Private services will be held Tuesday, August 15 with Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, officiating. Interment in Saints Mary and Ann Cemetery, Marianna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marianna Community Public Library, PO Box 457, Marianna, PA 15345.
