Douglas Edington Obituary

Douglas D. Edington, 76, of Bentleyville, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in Monongahela Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born October 8, 1934 in Philadelphia, son of the late Douglas D. Edington, Sr. and Isabel Wilson Edington.

A veteran, Mr. Edington served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from May 1952 to May 1960. He was a member of the American Legion Post 165 and served with the honor guard.

He retired from NCR Corporation and worked in the service and management departments for the eastern states. After retirement, he was on the support staff for the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Bentleyville.

Mr. Edington was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and was the current treasurer of the Bentleyville Area Historical Society.

An avid freelance photographer, he was a member of the International Society of Photographers, International Freelance Photographers Organization.

On May 10, 1954, he married Emma Capozza, who died September 6, 2005.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Joseph and Laurie Edington of Bethel Park; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Richard V. Edington (Bernie) of Philadelphia and James Edington of Penna. and several nieces and nephews.

Also deceased is a daughter, Vicki Getzey.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255. Private services will be held Saturday, August 20 with the Rev. Andy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, with military honors by the American Legion Post 165 and the U.S. Navy.
