Frank M. Durko, 83, formerly of Ellsworth, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born May 28, 1925, a son of John and Mary Psota Durko.
He retired from the former Bethlehem Mines and worked as a shipping clerk at mine 60, Somerset Township.
He also was a part-time brick layer.
A veteran, Mr. Durko served with the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II.
He was a member of Ave Maria Parish, American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville, the Sons of Italy of Cokeburg, Cokeburg Moose and U.M.W.A. Local 1197.
His wife, Lillian Jean Snyder Durko, died April 9, 2005.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry M. and Kathleen Durko of Canonsburg and Roger F. and Gina Durko of Washington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Ronald Zilkowski of Potomac, Maryland and Tonya Durko of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandson, Bradley, Christopher and Connor Durko; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Steve Durko of Charleroi, Joseph and Carol Durko and George and Dorothy Durko, all of Cokeburg; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita Calendrillo and Ann and Vince Gennaro, all of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, John Durko and Paul Durko, who was killed in WWII and a sister, Stella Racz.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a prayer service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17 followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville, with Rev. Gary W. Krummert, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater PA Chapter, 3544 N. Progress Ave, Ste 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
