Fred Armstrong, Sr. Obituary

Fred H. Armstrong, Sr., 56, of Richeyville, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at UPMC-Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was born June 13, 1953 in Washington, a son of Christine Hartley Armstrong of Washington and the late Carl Armstrong, Sr.

He was a graduate of California High School.

A veteran, he served for 20 years with the U.S. Navy as a Boiler Technician and retired as a Master Chief. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, among others.

Currently, Fred was a safety consultant for Washington County.

He was a member of Daisytown Athletics Club, AMVETS and the National V.F.W.

He enjoyed golfing and his grandchildren were his life.

On May 25, 1972 in Richeyville, he married Debbie A. Byrne, who survives.

Also surviving are his sons, J.R. Armstrong (Tracy) of Bentleyville and Dale Armstrong (Amber) of Eighty Four; grandchildren, Riley Lewis, Annaka Armstrong, Tanner, Jordan and Joshua Webb; sisters, Louise Binns (Ronnie) of Ohio, Kathy Armstrong (Jim) of Washington, Sandra Ramsey (Mark) of Beallsville and Brenda Shearer (Jeff) of Michigan; brothers, James Armstrong of Paw Paw, West Virg., Carl Armstrong, Jr. (Linda) of Hickory, Jack Armstrong of Ohio and Ricky Armstrong (Ruthie) of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his father, are his grandparents, Earl and Garnet Armstrong and Frank and Sarah Hartley.

Friends welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255). There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
