George Smaroff, 96, of Somerset Township, Eighty Four, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at UPMC-Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
He was born April 6, 1913 in Ellsworth, a son of Jacob and Stella Spardona Smaroff.
In September 1974, Mr. Smaroff retired from Bethlehem Mines and worked at mine 51 in Ellsworth.
He was a member and former treasurer of the United Mine Worker's of America Local 1197.
Surviving are a son, Jack Smaroff of Eighty Four; a daughter, Nancy Smaroff of Basye, Virginia; four grandchildren, Gregory and Danny Smaroff, Desiree Vedo and Duke Smaroff; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Smaroff of Freedom and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his wife, Mary Samec Smaroff, who died November 17, 1987; a son, Robert Smaroff; a brother and six sisters.
Friends are welcome from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2010 with Rev. Andy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Charleroi Cemetery. For those unable to attend, condolences can be sent at www.thompson-marodi.com.
