Gerald Filla Obituary

Gerald M."Jerry" Filla, 68, of Monessen, died Friday, September 7, 2007, at his home.


He was born March 31, 1939 in California, a son of the late Conrad Luke and Olive Grace Dickinson Filla.


He was a 1957 graduate of Charleroi High School.


A veteran, he served with U.S. Air Force, from 1957 to 1958.


He was employed by the former BethEnergy Mines at the Wilson Shop, Ellsworth, where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of U.M.W.A., Local 1197.


Mr. Filla was a member of The Orchard Christian Fellowship in Monessen.


At the time of his death, he was in his third year at the Shiloh Bible Institute, Washington studying to become a minister.


His wife, Velma E. Bench Filla, died July 11, 2001.


Surviving are his six children; Wendy Ann (Filla) Dresser of Penn Hills,PA; Eleanor Lynn (Filla) Brubaker of Atlanta, Georgia; Ann Marie (Filla) Matthews of Beaver,PA; Sally Jean (Filla) Bradshaw of Gulf Port, MS; Terry Michelle (Filla) Tafelski of Newport, Michigan and Jerry Michael Filla of Perth, Western Australia; two step-sons, Joseph John Obosky of Bentleyville and John Joseph Gordon of Clarksville; 12 grandchildren- Kayla M. Tafelski, Bethany M. Tafelski, Ryan S. Tafelski, Abigail G. Brubaker, Logan W. Brubaker IV, Samual I. Matthews, Stephen J. Matthews, Michael J. Filla, Ashley Filla, Nathan Filla, Matthew Filla, Megan N. Dresser; 3 step-grandchildren-Sheila Harosky, Nicole Anderson and Joseph John Obosky, Jr. and 4 step-great-grandchildren, Christopher Harosky, Joshua Anderson, Cole Joseph Obosky and Logan Anderson; a sister, Lena Herman of Monongahela; a brother, Gary Filla of Atlanta, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.


Deceased are a sister, Christine Zelinsky and a brother, Conrad Filla.


At the request of the deceased, there will no visitation. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2007 at The Orchard Christian Fellowship, 721 Schoonmaker Ave., Monessen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Orchard Christian Fellowship.
