Harold W. "Punkin" Bane, 85, formerly of Ellsworth, died Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Washington Hospital.
He was born August 10, 1922 in Bentleyville, a son of Clyde and Ethel Huffman Bane.
He attended the Bentleyville Schools.
A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army, during World War II.
For 47 years, he worked for the former BethEnergy Mines at mine 51 in Ellsworth as a control panel operator.
Mr. Bane was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Eagles 1809 and the American Legion Post 165, all of Bentleyville. He was also a member of the Bentleyville Lions Club for 38 years and the United Mine Workers of America, Local 1197
On January 30, 1943 in Woodville, Mississippi, he married Margaret M. Farrier, who died November 30, 1992.
Surviving are four children Harold R. Bane (Sharon) of Aurora, Colorado, Patricia Lehman of South Park, Art K. Bane (Beci) of Ellsworth and Debbie Guza (Mark) of Scenery Hill; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Bane, Jr. of Ellsworth and Norman Bane of Ashtabula, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his wife are a daughter, Bonnie Lee Decker, who died March 21, 1990; a brother, James Bane and a sister, Edna Lowther.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 with the Rev. Andy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 or the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. The Bentleyville Lions Club will hold a service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. For those unable to attend, condolences can be sent at www.thompson-marodi.com.
