Howard Mervin Swango, 93, formerly of Bethel Park, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Country Care Manor, Fayette City.
He was born April 23, 1930 in Dormont, the son of the late Mervin E and Eva Maria (Failing) Swango and was the brother of the late Janet (Swango) Davis.
Howard was married for 52 years to his wife Nancy Grace Meder Swango, who passed away August 12, 2012.
Surviving are their three children, Timothy J. (Elizabeth), Christian J. (Beth), and Jill S. White (Joe); grandchildren, Sarah Penrod (Michael) and Jamie Lukich (Joe), David, Matthew, Ryan and Cory Swango, and Nicholas, Nathan and Caitlin White; great-grandchildren, Riley, Logan, Isabella, Ava, Jacob, Forest, along with nephews and nieces.
Howard proudly enlisted in the US Navy on his 18th birthday and served between 1950 and 1952. He attended General Motors school and spent his career locally in the automotive industry.
Howard played his saxophone in many bands over the years. Including the Howard Swango Big Band and the Syria Shriner Stage Band.
Howard was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 69 years. Howard was an avid motorcyclist owning 37 motorcycles in his life and mentoring three generations to follow in his love for music and motorcycles.
