James Gibson Obituary

James T. Gibson, 84, of Bentleyville, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his home.


He was born April 16, 1924 in Bentleyville, a son of Larry and Margaret Wilson Gibson.


A veteran, he served from 1942 to 1946 with U.S. Army, 1st Armored Division during World War II as a sergeant and spent 115 days on the front line.


Mr. Gibson retired from US Steel, Christy Park mill, where he worked for 30 years. He later worked as a custodian for the Bentworth School District.


He was a member of American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.


He was an avid fan of stock car racing and attended races every summer on Friday nights.


On April 3, 1948 in Bentleyville, he married Pearl Battistone, who survives.


Also surviving are son, Gary Gibson and his wife Vickie of Bentleyville; a granddaughter, Jillian Lauder and her husband Les; two nieces, Marsha Gibson and Ronna Voelker.


Deceased are two brothers, William and Robert Gibson.


Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2008 with the Pastor Donald O'Hare, of Central Assembly of God Church, Houston, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery, Fallowfield Township with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165.
