Jeanne Elaine Veres Zborowski, 57, of Eighty Four, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009 following nearly two years of treatment for cancer.
Jeanne was born May 2, 1951 to the late Joseph Paul and Mary Alma (Buchanan) Veres of Monessen.
Jeanne is a graduate of Monessen High School (1969); she later earned the following degrees from University of Pittsburgh: BS Medical Technology (1973), MS Hematology (1984) and PhD Epidemiology (2000). Jeanne's professional career included both clinical laboratory work and teaching at Washington Hospital, Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (University of Pittsburgh) and Research Specialist at the Graduate School of Public Health (University of Pittsburgh).
Jeanne directed and participated in several research studies and authored or co-authored numerous technical papers in the field of public health.
An avid reader, she acquired an extensive collection of books. Jeanne also enjoyed physical activities, particularly golf and dance. Jeanne offered support for the performing arts both locally with the annual Bentworth H.S. Musical and regionally with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Jeanne is a member of Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Dolores 1675.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Ronald W. "Sama? Zborowski and son Gregory J. Zborowski and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville with Rev. Gary W. Krummert, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ave Maria Parish, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314 or the American Cancer Society/PA Division, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will pray the Rosary at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. For those unable to attend, condolences can be sent at www.thompson-marodi.com.
