Jerris Stankus Obituary

Jerris A. Stankus, 73, of Eighty Four, formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday, August 10, 2012 at The Donnell House, Washington.

He was born February 21, 1939 in Pittsburgh, a son of Jerry Miroslav and Ann C. Motichak Stankus.

He was a 1958 graduate of the Bentleyville High School and a 1977 graduate of the Washington Institute of Technology as a welder.

He retired from High Steel in Lancaster where he worked as a welder in bridge construction.

A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1965 and also served with the Air National Guard from 1957 to 1960.

Mr. Stankus volunteered in the Civil Air Patrol of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary where obtained the rank of major.

He was a member of the Conestoga Valley Church of Christ in Lancaster, Ham Operators International and was a free-lance photographer.

Surviving are three children, Barry Stankus of Vestaburg, Brad Stankus (Dawn) of Canonsburg and Jessica Morris of Marianna; six grandchildren, Alesha, Sabrina, Zachary, Katie Stankus and Levi and Niccolle Morris; a brother, Jess M. Stankus (Marla) of Eighty Four and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, John R. Stankus, Sr. and an uncle John “Unc” Stankus.

Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 13 with the Rev. Andy Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165.
