Joanne E. Smiley Smith, 90, of Bentleyville, passed away Monday afternoon, July 13, 2026 at her daughter Shelley’s home.
She was born January 7, 1936 in Bentleyville, a daughter of the late Alvin Leroy Smiley and Elsie Leota Tinley Smiley.
A 1953 graduate of Bentleyville High School, Joanne enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, and watching all sports on TV.
She retired from Ansys, Inc. and was the secretary for the Washington County Fair for 35 years.
Joanne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bentleyville, where she served as treasurer, choir director and organist.
Surviving are her daughters Karla J. Popovich (Michael) of Scenery Hill and Shelley Vivio (Dean) of Ellsworth; granddaughter, Angela Cook and great-grandsons Emmett and Aiden Capps, all of Bentleyville, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her siblings Wilbur and Thomas Smiley, Jean Huber and Margaret Roupe, and former spouse William L. Smith
Friends welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where her service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2026 with Pastor Al Wettach, officiating.
Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
