John Oliver Hathaway, 79, of Powell, Ohio, formerly of Washington, died Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born October 5, 1929 in Washington, a son of Clark N. and Lavina Mankey Hathaway.
While living in Washington, he worked as a mechanic at Mankey Brothers Garage.
In 1957, he and his wife moved to Columbus, where he worked as a mechanic for the Columbus City Schools Bus Compound.
Mr. Hathaway was a 45-year member of the Maize Manor United Methodist Church in Columbus.
His wife, Anna Geraldine "Gerry" Morton Hathaway, who died April 17, 2006.
Surviving are a son Scott Hathaway (Stacy) of Powell, Ohio; three grandchildren, Maxwell, Megan and Mia Hathaway; a brother, Carl Hathaway; three sisters, Ruth Sharpnack, Mary Dean and Jane Staley and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255). Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at 10 a.m., Monday, February 9 at Maple Creek Cemetery, Rt. 481, Fallowfield Township, with Pastor Randy Landman, associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
