John D. Robson, 81, of Coal Center, West Pike Run Township, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at home, where he had been under the care of Hospice for six weeks and attended to by family members.
He was born May 13, 1925 in Charleroi, a son of John J. and Annie Wells Robson.
He attended Charleroi Schools.
A veteran, Mr. Robson served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II as a staff sergeant. He received the Bronze Star 50 years after the war. He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Marksman Award, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal of World War II and the Bronze Arrowhead.
He was employed by Corning Glass Works, Charleroi where he retired as a machine operator.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Coal Center, JFK Post 377 American Legion of California and a life member of the VFW Post 157, Charleroi.
His wife, Pauline Sadosky Robson, whom he married on November 9, 1952 in Charleroi, died July 7, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, John M. Robson and wife Vicki of Washington and Robert A. Robson and wife Deborah of Waynesburg; a step-son, Lance (Richard) Kusman of Aliquippa; three grandchildren, Kelly Reed, John M. Robson, Jr., and Robert A. Robson, Jr.; two great-grandsons, Kyle Vincent Reed and Dalton Michael Reed; two sisters, Mildred Younkin of Charleroi and Norma Whitelaw of Charleroi; a brother, Elmer Robson of Bensalem and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a granddaughter, Becky Lyn Benamati; three brothers, Willard, Howard and Ronald Robson and three sisters, Luella Saddler, Georgiana Robson. Audrey Witmyer.
Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 25, with the Rev. Roy Whitelaw, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery with graveside military rites by J.F.K. Post 377 American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Albert Gallatin Hospice, 275 Meadowlands Blvd., Washington, PA 15301
