John L. Sabol, 97, formerly of Marianna, passed away Saturday morning, November 30, 2024 at Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care in Washington.
He was born September 25, 1927 in Marianna, the son of Alexander and Anna Harvan Sabol.
Mr. Sabol was employed by Hazel Atlas in Washington from 1944 to 1948. He then was employed by Bethlehem Mines Corporation from 1948 until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Sabol served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 2874, the American Legion Steel-Lillie Post 744, both of Marianna, and Saint Katherine Drexel Parish.
Surviving are two sisters, Ann Perchinsky of Bentleyville, and Veronica Greskovich (Frank) of Pensacola, Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Andrew, Albert, and Alexander "Cannon" Sabol, and five sisters, Mary Gablas, Dorothy Sabol, Margaret DiFilippo, Sister Theresita Sabol, and Catherine Rendulic.
Friends are welcome from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2024, followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Katharine Drexel, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant.
A procession will follow to Saints Mary and Ann Cemetery, Marianna for the Rite of Committal service and military rites by the American Legion Post 744.
