John R. Stankus, Sr., 67, of Bentleyville, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 1, 2010 at his home.
He was born April 5, 1942 in Pittsburgh, a son of Jerry Miroslav and Anna C. Motichak Stankus.
He was a 1960 graduate of Bentleyville High School.
A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army at the beginning of the Vietnam era from 1963 to 1965.
Mr. Stankus was employed by Merit Contracting in Monongahela, where he worked as a draftsman and estimator.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 165 and the Polish Club, all of Bentleyville.
Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie M. Guthrie (Thomas) and a son, Ken L. Clutter, all of Norfolk, Virginia; three grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha and Chyenne Guthrie; two brothers, Jerris A. Stankus of Lancaster and Jess M. Stankus (Marla) of Eighty Four; daughter-in-law, Sherry L. Marshall of Claysville and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is son, John R. Stankus, Jr., who died November 20, 2002.
Friends welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010, with the Rev. Andy Scott and Dr. John Garvin, officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legions of Bentleyville and Centerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 15120 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693.
