Joseph J. "Hoppy" Ball, 76, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Washington Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1933 in Bentleyville, a son of Joseph and Beatrice Drozdik Ball.
He was a graduate of Ellsworth high School.
A veteran, Mr. Ball served with the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the former BethEnergy Mines and worked at mine 58 in Marianna as a roof bolter.
He was a member of Independent Club, Bentleyville,
An avid Steelers fan, Mr. Ball also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and western movies.
On November 19, 1955 at the former St. Clements Church, Ellsworth, he married Jacqueline "Jackie" Zumpetta, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Sherry Jaras (husband Tony) of Port Washington, Ohio, Joseph L. Ball and Thomas F. Ball, both of Ellsworth; two grandchildren, Dawn Anderson (husband Tim) and Edward Jaras; two sisters, Karen Barish (husband Lou) of Aliquippa and Noreen Hustava (husband LeRoy) of Centerville and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Beatrice and Janet.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2009 with Rev. Gary Krummert, pastor of Ave Maria Parish, officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora with graveside military rites by American Legion Posy 165, Bentleyville.
