Joseph L. Blackmon, 92, formerly of Bentleyville and Brownsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Washington County Health Center, where he resided.
He was born on May 25, 1918 in Butler County, Alabama, the son of the late Edward and Mittie Stamps Blackmon and came to this area in his youth
Mr. Blackmon worked for Westinghouse as a crane operator for many years.
A member of Ave Maria Parish in Bentleyville, he was a prayerful man, who read the Bible and prayed the Rosary everyday.
He always voted and when President Obama was elected President he received a birthday card on his 90th birthday from the President. He treasured the card and his right to vote.
He was beloved by all that knew him.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2011 at Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville with the Rev. Gary W. Krummert, as celebrant.
