Laura Teresa Benedetti Hrutkay, 92, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Bentleyville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Sunrise of Upper St. Clair where she resided for the past year.
Laura was born August 10, 1932 in Somerset Township, the daughter of the late Angelo Benedetti Sr. and Mary DeFrancesco Benedetti.
Laura graduated from Bentleyville High School and then went on to work at RCA in Canonsburg, and the cafeteria at Bentworth High School.
She married her husband, George "Gus" on June 20, 1953 and celebrated 71 years together traveling, going dancing, enjoying their many friends, cooking the best Italian/Slovak foods for family and raising their four children, Greg Hrutkay (Brenda), Jeff Hrutkay (Veronica), Lori Clairmont and Heather Stubert (Tim).
Laura was an active member of the Saint Katharine Drexel Parish in Bentleyville, the parish Sunday and Resurrection Choir, the former Ave Marie Women's Guild, and the Catholic Daughters of America Court Dolores #1675.
While at Sunrise, she enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, doing arts and crafts, and making many new friends.
Laura's large family includes her brothers, Rudy (Barbara), Bob, Jack, Albert "Toots" (Vera) and her sisters-in-law, Greta Benedetti, and Patricia and Betty Hrutkay.
Laura's greatest joy were her five grandchildren, Matthew (Katarina), Kelley, Kyle (Sevan), Corey (Maria) Hrutkay, and Dylan Clairmont; and her six great grandchildren, Lucas, Lyvia, Mila, Kai and Cal Hrutkay and Wagner Clairmont Thompson.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Danny (Dolores), Angelo, Jr., sisters-in-law Alda, Nancy, Shirley, son-in-law Mike Clairmont and grandson, Ryan Clairmont.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2025 followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Katharine Drexel, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant.
A procession will follow to Sacred Heart Cemetery for the Rite of Committal service.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will pray the Rosary at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
