Lloyd E. Blackburn, 89, of Ellsworth, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington.
He was born June 30, 1922 in Uniontown, the oldest son of the late Luther and Catherine Hancosky Blackburn.
Mr. Blackburn was raised in Ellsworth, where he worked at the Bethlehem mine for 43 years.
After he retired, his activities were walking, bowling, visiting family and he enjoyed attending his Army reunions.
His wife of 63 years, Ann Zallow Blackburn, formerly of Cokeburg, died November 19, 2010. They were married May 10, 1947 and resided in Ellsworth all their married life.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Blackburn was a sergeant with the U.S. Army 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He honorably served his country from 1943 to 1945.
Surviving are his youngest sister, Shirley Blackburn Lutz and 19 nieces and nephews.
Also deceased are three sisters, Betty Patton, Dorothy Ambrosy, Thelma Dobrowolski and four brothers, Marty Jr., Bill, Bobby and David Blackburn.
