Mary G. Fereza Dziak, 94, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Washington County Health Center.
She was born June 9, 1914 in Ellsworth and was the last member of her immediate family of Mato and Lucia Kovach Fereza, who had six children.
She attended school in Bentleyville.
She was a homemaker and employed at the Somerset Elementary school as a cook until her retirement.
Mrs. Dziak enjoyed flower gardening and was affectionately nicknamed "Marigold" by family members. She was also called "Aunt Minnie" by her nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was also known for her great cooking and baking skills and was famous for her baked cookie strips.
A member of Ave Maria Parish in Bentleyville, she attended daily mass for many years and will be remembered for her fashionable hats. She was a volunteer cook for several of the parish priests.
On July 16, 1930, she married John W. Dziak, who died in 1972.
Mrs. Dziak had two sons, William, who died September 1, 2005 and James of San Diego, California.
Also surviving are a grandson, Doug Dziak of Bentleyville; great-grandchildren, Cami, Heidi, Luke and James Dziak; daughter-in-law, Virginia Dziak of Bentleyville and several nieces and nephews.
Also deceased are her brothers, Michael and Frank Fereza and sisters, Ann Misko, Catherine Sharp and Pauline Drewniak.
Friends are welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 15, followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville with Rev. Gary W. Krummert, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory would be welcomed by the family to Ave Maria Parish, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
