Reverend Andy Scott Obituary

Reverend Andy Scott, 49, of Ellsworth, died quietly on Sunday morning, June 1, 2025, after a brief acute illness.

Andy was born on May 29, 1976, the son of John Mark Scott and Judith Rush Scott. He was the loving husband of Sarah Kathleen Ebner, whom he married on July 31, 1999, and the father of Amelia Rose, John Andrew Jr., and William Fredrick Scott.

Pastor Andy was a graduate of Avella High School and Washington and Jefferson College. He earned an MA in British Imperial and Naval History from Royal Holloway College (University of London) and a Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Prior to attending Seminary, he worked for three years as a reporter for the Greene County Office of the Observer Reporter. Upon graduation from seminary, he was called as the pastor to the First Presbyterian Church of Bentleyville, where he served over 20 years.

While at the Church, he was well known for his outreach to the community and his mentoring and pastoral care of his congregation.

Andy was well known as a Renaissance Man. He earned his private pilot's license at age 16 and logged many hours with his father in the skies in pursuit of the $75 hot dog. In sermon preparation, he did original translations in Hebrew and Greek. Additionally, he was an avid supporter of his children's many activities as well as an avid sports fan. He pursed music whenever time permitted, learning to play the violin as an adult. But he never lost his love of history. One of his particular passions was the Early Medieval Church Fathers.

Surviving in addition to his wife, children and parents are his brother Rev. Benjamin Scott (Elena) and their daughters Angelina, Sophia, Ruby and Elizabeth, and his sister Hope Paul (Rev. Curtis) and their sons Lane and August, and mother-in-law Kathy Ebner (William deceased), brothers-in-law Chris (Jennie) and Scott (Dan) and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
