Simon Ross Obituary

Simon, a boxer mix with a beautiful brindle coat, was well loved by his mom and dad, Wayne and Sandy Ross of Raleigh, NC, and fur sister, Molly.

On July 26, 2019, just six days after his brother Dewey crossed over the rainbow bridge, Simon died at the age of about 14 years.

In March of 2007, he was adopted from the Wake County Animal Shelter when he was one or two years old. Simon established his place as dominant member of the family once he was adopted as he chewed his way through the garage and set about proving that no 6-foot-fence could retain him. When the fence height was raised, he learned to dig his way out and under. Eventually his age and weight prevented him from escaping to chase deer in the woods.

When his dad started watching other dogs at the home, he was king of the backyard as he kept the peace between all family members and visitors. He took it upon himself to teach all dogs how to use the dog door. He was the best boy as he struggled to make sure he used the dog door even on the morning he passed away.

Simon was self-appointed caretaker of his brother Dewey, as he nursed him after each seizure and, we believe, he hung on well past the average age of his breed just to make sure Dewey was OK. Once Dewey passed over the rainbow bridge, Simon was then free to join him.

Though not a fan of cats, Simon enjoyed most other animals and people, though he liked to scare visitors with his enthusiastic barking keeping them straight. His calm presence with his family members will be dearly missed but he remains in our hearts.
