Telfer "Woody" Wales

Telfer L. “Woody” Wales, 90, of Eighty Four, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at The Donnell House.

He was born February 24, 1922 in Iron River, Michigan, a son of Sidney and Beatrice Yoe Wales.

He attended the public schools in Iron River.

Mr. Wales retired in 1982 from Columbia Gas after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Davidson United Methodist Church in Glyde, where he held several offices.

A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 82nd Service Group in the European-African Middle Eastern Theater. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S. Henry Cruiser and the U.S.S. Salem.

His wife, Sylvia Sumney Wales, survives. They were married April 19, 1950.

Also surviving are three sons, Ronnie Lee Wales (wife Jill Jansante Wales) of Canonsburg, Lonnie Ray Wales (wife Janice Sawhill Wales) of Midway and Gary Lynn Wales of Eighty Four; four grandchildren, Nicole Linn Lloyd of Lumberton, N.C., Stevie Rae Wales Disilvio of Carnegie, Riley Alexander Wales and Glenna Collette Wales, both of Canonsburg; two great-grandsons, Braden Samuel Lloyd and Noah Christen Lloyd; a great-granddaughter, Riley Grace Lloyd and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers and three sisters.

Friends are welcome from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013, the hour of service, at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255. The Rev. Patty Comini-Miller will officiate. Private interment will be in Washington Cemetery.
