Veronica (Saniga) Watkins

Veronica Saniga Watkins, 102, of Ellsworth passed away Monday morning, May 8, 2023 at the Greenery Center, Canonsburg.

She was born May 10, 1920 in Ellsworth, a daughter of John and Sophia Saniga.

She was a 1938 graduate of the Bentleyville High School.

Mrs. Watkins had worked at Caldwell’s Drug Store in Bentleyville and the Bentleyville Telephone Company.

She was a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish.

Her husband, Henry “Ted” Watkins, who she married in 1954 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Bentleyville, died October 28, 1989.

Surviving are her sons, Ted Watkins (Cathy) of Bentleyville and John Watkins (his wife Mary died in 2008); grandchildren, Zack, Amanda, Allie, Carmina, and John; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kenny, Jane, and Danny, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Watkins was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased are her siblings, Cyril, Methodius, and Eugene Saniga, Mary Cook, Clara Saniga and Dolly Kooser.

Friends are welcome from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Katharine Drexel, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant.

A procession will follow to Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela for the Rite of Committal service.
