William A. "Fiki" Andrachick, 94, of Bentleyville, died peacefully Saturday evening, October 12, 2013 at Thorpeâs Personal Care Home, Charleroi.
He was born January 18, 1919 in Ellsworth, a son of Joseph and Mary Zmuda Andrachick.
He attended the Ellsworth Schools and was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during World War II in the battles of the Philippines and Okinawa with the 57th Field Artillery.
Mr. Andrachick was a member of Ave Maria Parish, where he was the cheese cutter for the Pierogie makers. He also dug graves by hand for the parish cemetery.
He retired from Bethlehem Mines, mine 51 in Ellsworth.
He was an avid golfer at Chippewa Golf Course in Bentleyville and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A man of many talents, Mr. Andrachick built the family home, built bird houses for family and friends and for 30 years shot fireworks for Zambelliâs.
He was a member of the Lithuanian Club, a former bowler at Tan-O-Bell Lanes, both in Bentleyville and played baseball for the local Vikings team.
On July 13, 1946 in St. Luke Church of Bentleyville, he married Stella Evanosky Andrachick, who died July 5, 2012.
Surviving are his daughters Mary Jo Harris (Robert T.) of California, Joanne M. Tonin (Frank) of Greensburg and Valerie Silva of Edinboro; grandchildren Monica Van Court (Ron), Frank W. Tonin (Linda), Jason M. Tonin and Elizabeth Sinchak; four great-grandchildren, Robbie and Jessica Van Court and Abigail and Quinn Tonin; sisters, Helen Breed of Napa, California and Genevieve Parsons of Clairton and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Karen A. Sinchak, died on March 5, 2010; brothers, Chester A., Robert and Louis Andrachick and Joseph Poznaski and sisters, Josephine Anderson and Phyllis Prickett.
There will be no visitation. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Ave Maria Church, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville with the Reverend Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Luke Cemetery of Ave Maria Parish with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bentworth Senior Center Meals-on-Wheels, 931 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
