William J. Armbruster, Jr., 83, of Fallowfield Township, Charleroi, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his home.
He was born December 10, 1925 in North Charleroi, a son of William J. Armbruster, Sr. and Elsie Mancha Armbruster.
He attended the Fallowfield Township Elementary and Junior High Schools and was a graduate of Charleroi High School.
A veteran, Mr. Armbruster served with U.S. Army, during World War II in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the American Legion Post 165 of Bentleyville.
He was a former salesman for Diekmann Floral Supply, Wheeling, West Virginia.
Mr. Armbruster was active in Fallowfield Township. He served as an auditor for two years, served on the Fallowfield Township School Board for five years and an additional one year after the merger with Charleroi Area School District. He was a member of the Fallowfield Township Grange for over 55 years and for six years was a scout leader for Fallowfield Troop 1420.
He was a member of the Fallowfield Township Lions Club for over 50 years and was the last surviving charter member.
On April 16, 1949 in Winchester, Virginia, he married Dorothy Jean Sabo Armbruster, who survives. For 38 years, they owned and operated the Bentleyville Flower Shop.
Also surviving are a son, William J. Armbruster, III (Ann) of Fallowfield Twp.; grandchildren, Alexander W. Armbruster (Jan), Andrew P. Armbruster (Lorri), Aric D. Armbruster, Thomas N. Voelker and Allison Ann Zelinsky (Ron); great-grandchild, Kaylinn and Adam Armbruster and Natalie Booth; sister, Nellie Palmer (Tom) of Fallowfield Township and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her twin children, Jeffrey Lee Armbruster and Jennifer Lynn Voelker and a sister, Shirley Harshman.
Friends are welcome from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2009 with the Rev. Mark Woomer, pastor of Charleroi Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery, Fallowfield Township with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165.
